About

Our organization is dedicated to facilitating philanthropy and leadership development for our teenage sons. Through family commitment and shared experiences, we believe TVIA can help shape lives and make a positive impact in our community. We are six chapters strong across San Diego and membership includes young men in grades 7-12 and their families.

History

We owe our impressive legacy of service to the forward thinking of Ms. Franci Free. Along with a small group of friends, Ms. Free created TVIA in 2000, recognizing that there were no service organizations in the area that were geared toward teen boys. Based on her belief that “teaching your kids to give back is a gift that keeps on giving,” she created an organization that now boasts over a thousand members in any given year, who provide countless hours of service to the community, while also learning to become leaders of the future.

The establishment of the first chapter has been followed by a number of other successful chapters. All chapters are tax-exempt 501(c)(3) non-profits organizations, with a mission to meet an underserved need to introduce teen boys to community involvement and leadership at a local level.

Mission

Teen Volunteers in Action is committed to developing strong community leaders through a structured program of volunteerism, philanthropy, and personal development.

Vision

We aspire to expose our teenage sons to the world of philanthropic giving, to strengthen the family bond through shared participation in service, and to develop the next generation of civic leaders. TVIA does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender expression or any other classification protected by law. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Philanthropic Partners

We work with approximately 50 philanthropies across San Diego County, offering a wide variety of opportunities for community involvement.
